4 Spring Maintenance Tips For Your Furnace And AC Before You Switch To Cooling Your Home

by Wanda Franklin

With the winter months coming to an end, you are going to be ready to turn down the heating in your home. It will also be time to start the AC soon, which is why there are some maintenance tasks that you will want to do to both the furnace and AC in your home. Here are some of the maintenance tasks that you will want to do to your HVAC system before the seasons change this year:

1. Cleaning The Furnace And Inspecting It For Problems

Once the cold weather is gone and your heating is not coming on anymore, you may want to clean the furnace to prepare it for next year. You can use a vacuum attachment to remove any dust inside the unit. When you are doing this, also inspect the system for any problems, such as loose wires or access doors that do not shut properly.

2. Changing Filters And Cleaning Coil Housings

With a conventional HVAC system, there are filters that are used to remove dust and filter the air that is circulates in your home. It is important that you change these filters regularly. If you have separate filters for the AC and heating, change them before you turn them off for the season. This can help to reduce air borne contaminates that circulate in the air in your home.

3. Preparing The AC Unit For The Hot Summer Season

When it is time to turn your AC on for the summer, you will want to make sure that you are ready for the heat. To prepare your AC unit for hot weather, remove any weatherization. In addition, you may want to clean the unit and do small repairs like straighten bent fins on the air condensing coils.

4. Checking The System For Minor Problems That You Can Fix

It is a good idea to go through your home and check for any minor problems that need repair before you turn your AC on for the season. You will want to first check and change the filters and make sure all the vents are open. You may also want to check the batteries in the thermostat and make sure that the ductwork does not need any repairs.

It explains everything you need to know about maintaining normalcy with your HVAC system and keeping records of check-ups and repairs. Please, take a seat and enjoy reading this blog.
